Privacy Policy
Effective October 13, 2026
The short version
- Your shelf (the tabs you save, their titles and addresses) is stored in your browser on your computer. It is never sent to us or anyone else.
- The extension sends anonymous usage stats, such as how many tabs a clean shelved or which buttons get used. They never include a page address, title, domain or anything you type. You can turn them off.
- There's no account. If you buy Pro, ExtensionPay and Stripe handle the payment and know your email.
- We count visits to this website without cookies, and we never store your IP address.
- All stats go to our own database. We don't use an analytics company.
Who we are
Tab Shelf is a browser extension for Chrome and Microsoft Edge, and this website. In this policy, "we" means the maker of Tab Shelf, Niven. Contact: nivenjay10@gmail.com.
What stays on your computer
The extension stores the following in your browser's extension storage on your computer. We never receive it.
- Shelved tabs: page title, address, site name, the time you saved it, and its icon address.
- With Pro Resume Points turned on: your scroll position, video time and highlighted text on a page at the moment it was shelved.
- Your settings (how many tabs to keep, Autopilot rules, sites to never shelve) and simple counters (how many tabs you've shelved).
- A random install id, created on your computer, used only for the usage stats below.
Uninstalling the extension deletes all of this. Use Export on the shelf page first if you want a copy.
Usage stats the extension sends
To learn which features help, the extension sends short event messages to our own server at tab-shelf.pages.dev, which stores them in our database on Cloudflare. No analytics company receives them. Each event contains:
- the event name, for example
tabs_cleaned,tab_restored,smart_restore,search_used,trial_startedorreview_prompt_clicked; - the random install id, the extension version, whether you use Chrome or Edge, and your Pro state (free, trial, trial ended or Pro);
- small numbers or settings that belong to the event, for example how many tabs a clean shelved, your keep setting, or the Smart restore mode. Shelf sizes are sent as ranges like "21-50".
- once a day, while your browser is open: a check-in with your keep setting, whether Autopilot and Resume Points are on, and the shelf size range.
Events never include page addresses, titles, site names, search text, highlighted text or anything you type. Like any web request, an event arrives with your IP address. We keep only the country it points to and don't store the address.
Turning it off: uncheck "Share anonymous usage stats" at the bottom of your shelf page, or on the welcome page. Nothing more is sent after that.
Payments for Pro
Pro is a one-time payment handled by ExtensionPay, with checkout by Stripe. They collect your email address and payment details to process the purchase and to let you restore it on another computer. We receive your email address and whether you've paid. We never see your card number.
To check your Pro status, the extension stores a key from ExtensionPay and asks extensionpay.com whether it's paid. The 7-day trial runs entirely in the extension and needs no email.
This website
tab-shelf.pages.dev counts visits, clicks on install buttons, which sections of the home page people reach and which questions they open. It uses no cookies and saves nothing on your device. For each event we store the page, the site that linked you here (or the utm_source in the link), your browser's name and your country.
To count unique visitors without cookies, our server combines your IP address and browser details with a random value that changes every day, and keeps only a short scrambled code. The random value is deleted when the day ends, so the code can't be turned back into your IP address or matched with your visits on other days. We never store the IP address itself.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which processes standard request data (such as IP address) to serve and protect the site.
The uninstall survey
When you uninstall, your browser opens a short page asking why. Answering is optional. Your answer, the extension version, browser and the random install id are sent to our own server, so we can see how long the extension was used before it was removed. Please don't include personal details in the comment box.
Extension permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Tabs | To read the titles and addresses of open tabs, close the ones you aren't using, and open them again. |
| Storage, unlimited storage | To keep your shelf on your computer, however long it gets. |
| Favicon | To show site icons from your browser's own icon cache. |
| Alarms, idle | Autopilot checks for idle tabs every few minutes and pauses while you're away. Pro status and the daily usage check-in run once a day. |
| Scripting, site access | Only for Resume Points. Site access is requested when you turn it on, never at install. |
Sharing and selling
We don't sell data. We share it only with the providers named here (ExtensionPay, Stripe, and Cloudflare, which hosts our site and database) so they can provide their service to us, and when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Usage events and website stats are deleted automatically after about 13 months (400 days). Purchase records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Your choices and rights
You can turn off usage stats in the extension and export or delete your shelf at any time. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you can ask us to access or delete data linked to your install id or email. Write to nivenjay10@gmail.com. Tell us roughly when you installed Tab Shelf and which browser you use, and we'll find the matching events.
Children
Tab Shelf isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. Big changes, such as sending a new kind of data, will be announced in the extension before they take effect.
