Reopen closed tabs in Chrome
Updated October 27, 2026
Press Ctrl+Shift+T (Cmd+Shift+T on a Mac) to reopen the last tab you closed. Press it again for the one before. For older tabs, use your browser history or a tab shelf that keeps what you closed until you delete it.
Reopen a closed tab with the keyboard
Press Ctrl+Shift+T on Windows and Linux, or Cmd+Shift+T on a Mac. Each press brings back one more recently closed tab, and if you closed a whole window, it reopens the window.
Other built-in ways
- Right-click the tab strip and choose Reopen closed tab.
- History: open the browser menu, choose History, and look under Recently closed.
- Full history:
Ctrl+H(Cmd+Yon a Mac) searches everything you visited.
Where the built-in ways fall short
- The recently closed list is short, and it clears when you clear history.
- Private windows don't appear in history.
- You can only bring back tabs one at a time, in the order you closed them.
A shelf that doesn't forget
With Tab Shelf, tabs you clean go to a shelf you can search by title or address. They stay there until you delete them, you can reopen one tab, a whole session, or three at a time with Smart restore, and a deleted tab can be brought back with Undo.
